Bangalore: Volvo IT has installed a global command center in Bangalore that is likely to manage and support infrastructure, networks and computers remotely for various arms of its parent, the Volvo Group. Satish Rajkumar, Head of Volvo IT India said, "Except for mainframes, for which the expertise does not exist at the center in Bangalore, the India center will work around the clock to run the IT operations in 17 locations worldwide." The company feels that by creating one central organization for service monitoring in Bangalore, Volvo IT gets increased economies of scale, and can offer Volvo and other customers a unified, global picture of the performance of their most important computer systems. Apart from meeting in-house IT requirements of Volvo, Volvo IT also works for other customers. Rajkumar said, "The remote management of the computers and other IT infrastructure of some of these clients will also be done from India." For the last four years, Volvo IT has been running the IT infrastructure for Volvo's operation in the country. Currently, it has about 120 employees in India, besides some 400 staff placed by contractors.
