Abu Dhabi: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) plans to install a biometric face recognition system at all entry points in a bid to enhance homeland security, Gulf News reported Monday. The system was launched July 14 at the international airport here and will soon be installed at all entry points of the country. "The system will perform identification checks of all people who enter the country and those at transit lounges from a distance and without their active participation," Fawwaz Khalil Dawood, head of the committee in charge of the system, said. It verifies a person from a digital image or a video frame by comparing selected facial features from the image and a facial database. The system analyses the relative position, size and shape of the eyes, nose, cheekbones and jaw. It also identifies a face from a range of angles, including a profile view.
