Bangalore: The global cloud data traffic will increase at a rate of 66 percent by 2015 said Cisco, the network equipment maker. "Cloud" is used as a symbol for the Internet. Cloud traffic is the flow of data across the internet.

According to Cisco’s first annual Global Cloud index, the global data centre traffic will increase at large and it will touch 4.8 zettabytes by 2015 and by mid-decade, more than a third of all data center traffic will be based in the cloud, which allows data to be stored and accessed remotely, reports Reuters.

Nowadays, internet is used for many other reasons besides sending emails which is why the data center traffic is increasing at large. Previously the data center traffic was 1.1 zettabytes which will grow up 33 percent by 2015.

Cisco defines cloud service as easy access of data from anywhere at any time from various devices and can store data beyond conventional capacity. The consumers and businesses can use the application without installation and can access their files at any device which has internet access.  Like yahoo mail, Gmail or hotmail where the software or the server is not needed, only an internet connection matters to send emails. The server and the email management software are on the cloud and the service is provided by the cloud service provider which is more profitable for the consumers.

Finance is also a major factor since cloud based data centers may possibly support more virtual machines and workloads than traditional data centers which are more cost effective, said Suraj Shetty, Vice President of Product and Solutions Marketing at Cisco. Cisco, predicts that by 2014, cloud will dominate 50 percent of consumer based workloads and according to the IT research firm, the market of Global cloud computing will grow $241 billion by 2020.

However, it will take some time for certain geographic regions to carry various types of cloud applications whereas all regions will be able to support basic applications such as text messaging, emails, web browsing, social networking and  few regions will be able to use applications like HD, Video chatting and video games which are high-end cloud applications.
