The Grand Bazaar is one of the oldest shopping centers of the world. It is so extremely huge that you'll never see it all. Istanbul's Grand Bazaar is one of the world's most exciting shopping experiences. Traditional clothes, fashion jewellery, hand-painted ceramics, carpets, embroideries, spices and antiques are found in the market area. The market is noisy, busy, easy to get lost in and hard to get out of.
The marketplace covers sixty streets and five thousand shops. The stalls in the bazaar are clustered together by the type of goods sold with special areas for leather, gold jewellery and the like. The market complex encompasses two mosques, four fountains, two hamams and several cafes and eateries. In the centre is the elevated arched hall of Cevahir Bedesten, where the most priceless items and artifacts are found. Things like furniture, copperware, amber prayer beads, inlaid weapons, icons, mother-of-pearl mirrors, watches and clocks, old coins and gold jewellery. Spend a leisure afternoon exploring the bazaar or sit in one of the cafes to recapture the romantic atmosphere of old Istanbul.
