The Significance of Big Data for Data Management Vendors

Big Data and its management

According to a recent survey by IDC, in India alone there is a huge explosion of big data and its associated technologies. About a third of Indian organizations are witnessing a 60 percent year-on-year growth in data. Such acceleration was unheard of in the last 5-6 years. The survey also stated that from gigabytes of data, by 2015 the data storages will turn out to be so complex to analyze and manage Zettabytes of data.

“The growth of web- and cloud-based apps, and other data-intensive apps have amplified the challenges and ushered in an era of Big Data, forcing companies to find new ways to scale and manage their storage environment,” says Deepak Varma, Regional Head-Presales, EMC India & SAARC.

Big Data and its future

As the need for big data analysis is fuming, it’s pretty obvious that CIOs are looking at chances in improving big data management. On other hand, storage vendors are cashing heavily upon big data solutions and analytics. With challenges like agile data warehousing on the rise, in future companies will be giving prominence to data governance and security.

“We are witnessing rising interest in solutions which can help in analyzing the data once it is managed well. We believe that data management should be treated more as a continuous process and not as one time event. This ensures that data, which is the foundation of decision-making process, is complete, consistent and correct,” says Sudipta K Sen, Regional Director – South East Asia, CEO & MD, SAS Institute India.
