Bangalore: The semiconductor giants Toshiba, SanDisk, Panasonic, Samsung Electronics, Sony Corporation are teamed up to create the next generation SD or Secure Digital cards. Though the microSD cards are still in vogue among mobile users, the new gen cards appear to be one of the much-awaited products in the days to come. The cutting-edge copy protection mechanism could be licensed under a new name.

The new technological invention allows Android-based Smartphones, Tablets, Blu-Ray devices and other mobile computing gadgets to access copy protected, streamed HD or High Definition videos and data. According to the research group, more prominence on securing data in flash cards is exerted for the first time; a unique feature to compliment the same is the PKI or Public Key Infrastructure based Unique ID technology, offering some of the best known practices in cryptography.
