SYDNEY: Telstra has established a branded information technology hub in Bangalore which is a part of its move to cut its $ 1.5-billion information technology budget to half. Satyam Computer Services has a dedicated unit within the company, carrying Telstra branding, which will employ 120 to 130 employees, according to a report in The Australian . Almost 800 jobs involved with Telstra's IT contracts may now move to India. The deal follows last week's controversial move by IBM to use its Indian subsidiary to fulfil its Telstra IT contracts, resulting in up to 450 jobs moving offshore and saving $75 million. The move drew fire from federal Treasurer Peter Costello, but it was later revealed that Costello had been briefed on the issue last year. Telstra's has now finalised a multi-services agreement made last year with Satyam to work on Telstra's data warehousing previously performed by Deloitte Consulting. A Telstra spokesman would not comment directly on the centre.
