Bangalore: Technology professionals like all other professionals need to improve their English speaking skills in order to sustain themselves in the long run. It is a well know fact that most technology professionals know how to speak English, but there are few who are really up to the mark.

"Most of these professionals shy away from learning English, embarrassed by the thought that their colleagues will find out," said Ninad Karpe, CEO and MD of Aptech, a global retail and corporate training solutions provider, headquartered in Mumbai. Karpe was speaking at the launch of the English Express learning academy, set up to impart English training (including spoken English) to students and professionals alike. "As a solution to this, we have come out with a unique initiative called the 'digital Language Lab' which will address all these factors." The company has already approached several corporate firms for tie ups.

The current economic condition has made it imperative for professionals to re-train themselves. "This is a good opportunity for professionals to brush up their communication skills and for this purpose we have a special Business English course also," says Preeti Malik, Vice President, Aptech. The courses can be availed online as well.

Today the market for English training in India is expected to be approximately $1.4 billion a year. To tap into this market, Aptech is tying up with colleges, universities and state governments. Having opened its first four centers in Bangalore, it plans to set up around 80 to 100 centers in the country in a period of one year. The company has also entered into partnership with the Cambridge University Press for course content, with University of Cambridge for certification and with Glottophone for infrastructure. The courses can be availed for 7000 to 8000 for professionals and 3000 to 4000 for beginners.
