TCS to develop another campus in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: India's largest IT services firm Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) Thursday announced its plans to invest 
4 billion to develop a state-of-the-art development facility on 75 acres of land on the city's outskirts.
The proposed facility, which will employ 15,000 people, will come up in the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) promoted by Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) at Adibatla near Hyderabad international airport.
The leading global IT services, business solutions and outsourcing firm signed a memorandum of understanding with the Andhra Pradesh government to acquire the land. The MoU was signed in the presence of Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and S. Mahalingam, chief financial advisor, TCS.
With over 1.5 million square feet of space, the facility is expected to employ 15,000 people and be completed by 2013. In the first phase, likely to be completed by 2009, it will accommodate 3,000 people. The company plans to add another 5,000 employees by 2011 and 7,000 in the third and final phase.
This will take the total headcount of TCS in Hyderabad to 25,000, making it one of the biggest TCS centres on par with Chennai and Mumbai.
The proposed facility will be the third campus of TCS in Hyderabad. It presently employs 5,000 professionals at its campus in Hitec City, Madhapur. The first phase of the second campus at Gacchibowli is almost complete. Spread over 50 acres, the facility can accommodate 5,000 employees.
Mahalingam said 2,500 professionals will be recruited in Hyderabad during the current fiscal to serve TCS customers in specific verticals like engineering, industrial services and insurance.
"Hyderabad is one of the important and potential areas for TCS because of the availability of talented people. It also has two research centres - bio information and life sciences and systems engineering," he said.
Talking about the overall plans for the company, he said the company would add more than 32,000 professionals during the current fiscal. During 2006-07, TCS had raised its headcount by 32,000 people, taking the total number of employees to 89,000 in 47 countries. About 80,000 employees of TCS are based in India.
He said the company would be looking at tier-II cities for its expansion in India. He, however, declined to name the cities.
Mahalingam was confident that TCS, which posted revenues of $4.3 billion in 2006-07, would reach target of $10 billion by 2010. He said the company, which is the 11th largest IT services company in the world, can achieve this growth without acquisitions.
