Sunil Kant Munjal takes over as CII president

NEW DELHI: Sunil Kant Munjal, managing director of Hero Corporate Services Ltd., took over as the president of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Thursday. Y.C. Deveshwar, chairman of tobacco giant ITC Ltd., will be CII vice president for the year 2004-05, said a statement issued by the industry lobby group here. Munjal, who was the CII vice president for the fiscal ended March 31, 2004, replaced Anand Mahindra, managing director of automobile maker Mahindra and Mahindra. "Both the new president and vice president of CII represent the new face of Indian business. They both head world-class companies, and are committed to help Indian business take its rightful place in the world," said the statement. N. Srinivasan, who has been with the CII since 1974, took over as the director general of the industry lobby group from Tarun Das Thursday. Das will continue to serve as the CII chief mentor for three years.
