Startups That Are Still Bootstrapped

GitHub

githubFounded in April 2008, GitHub offers web-based hosting service for software development projects that use the Git revision control system. At first GitHub was a weekend project and a solution to their own problem where they liked git but were unable to share their codes with others.

The three co-founders, Chris Wanstrath, PJ Hyett, and Tom Preston-Werner spent money out of their pockets to cover the cost of a domain, hosting and started sharing their own idea for free with their friends. When they decided to make the business a full time business, they scrapped together the funds needed to setup a legal entity instead of seeking outside aid.
