Startups Are On Hiring Spree, Failed Entrepreneurs Are Hot Catch

Knowlarity, the cloud telephony service with around 300 employees said almost 50 have failed in interview. This Gurgaon-based firm was launched by Ambarish Gupta, who himself met with a failure in opening an online real estate brokerage company called Inventica. This firm couldn’t sustain for even two years. All his investments of $40,000 that he earned through his U.S. job were gone astray.

"The company failed but taught me valuable lessons," said Gupta who has now hired people who ran ventures in the internet, services, logistics and technology products. "Failures teach you a lot. However, it takes a lot of energy to start a company and even if someone has failed in doing so, he comes with a lot of knowledge, passion and self-drive," he said.

Recruiting a failed entrepreneur is commonly a beneficial equation. The former entrepreneur can realize the common startup issues, and the recruiters can provide them a chance to establish themselves once again.  "It's only about joining someone else's dream and making it your own," TaxiForSure's Hari said.

Tapas Dwivedi, a BITS Bilani graduate who co-founded a social movie-discovery search engine called dapple.in, had to hunt for a new job as the website failed in making profit, even after 14 months of operations. Tapas met Knowlarity around seven months back and planned to join their sales team.

"I always wanted to work on user and conversion-centered design and Knowlarity seemed to be just the right fit, with its smashing marketing team, an exciting list of clientele and users to create products for, and immense opportunity for self-growth," he said.

Gupta has employed a system inside the Knowlarity where people mostly ex- entrepreneurs, who work with various sectors and figure out what can be done. "The group is an extension of me. In a growth phase, you need people who can do things without being told what to do," he said.

"With new-age companies looking for people who can think out of the box, failed entrepreneur will be in demand," said Randstad's Mishra.
