"While the STPI (Software Technology Parks India) figures for the country show a growth of 17.62 percent till February-end this fiscal, software exports from Kerala have grown at 43.41 percent," said an IT department official who did not wish to be identified. According to him, software exports from the state touched 1,750 crore for 2007-08. STPI, is a society set up by the central government in 1991, with the objective of encouraging, promoting and boosting the software exports. "According to the STPI figures, the Technopark and Infopark together account for 25 percent of the total exports from tier-two and tier-three cities in the country and this is good news for those IT companies looking to shift operations from the metros," the IT official added. Currently, there are 26,000 employees at Technopark and another 8,500 at Infopark.
