Silicon Graphics Expands Presence in India

CHENNAI : Silicon Graphics Systems (India) Pvt. Ltd. (SGI) today announced the appointment of Redington (India) Ltd. as National Distributor for its high-performance servers and supercomputers, workstations, visualization systems and storage solution portfolio in India. The agreement was signed in the city today, by Dr. Prasad Medury, Managing Director, SGI and Mr. J. S. Kulkarni, Chief Executive Officer, Redington (India) Ltd. in the presence of Mr. Bill La Rosa, Senior Vice President, Intercontinental Field Operations, Silicon Graphics Inc. The appointment is part of SGI's expansion strategy to increase availability of its technology, hardware and professional services to Indian customers through Redington's extensive network sales offices spread across 32 cities with resellers, spread across 400 cities in the country. Redington, on the other hand, will leverage SGI's historical expertise of having worked with and handled customers in sciences and manufacturing in different parts of the world. The relationship will initially target organisations in the sciences and manufacturing market segments, with a primary focus on applications in areas of CAD/CAM, engineering and bioinformatics. At the signing ceremony, Dr. Prasad Medury, Managing Director, SGI said, "This relationship with Redington will enable SGI technologies to be made available to customers across the country and we will spend considerable resources to train and equip Redington's channels. This way an extended team of resources who understand SGI solutions can be near our customers to service their requirements." Added Mr. J. S. Kulkarni, Chief Executive Officer, Redington (India) Ltd., "Through this alliance, we would be able to offer our channel partners an opportunity to address a new segment of the market and on the other side leverage on our channel network and technical support infrastructure, to expand the reach of SGI." As part of this agreement, SGI will also enable Redington's experienced resource pool with technical expertise and enhanced skill sets through specialized training on SGI® products and solutions. The SGI product portfolio will enhance Redington's bandwidth to offer world-class products to its dealers and resellers across the country.
