Sensex ends below 8,000

MUMBAI: After a weak opening, the markets ended the day weak on across the board selling.
The benchmark index, the Sensex, slipped below 8,000 levels to make an intra-day low of 7,922. It closed at 7,971 levels translating into a fall of 151 points since the previous close. The Sensex has shed nearly 900 points in the last 10 trading sessions.
In the broader markets, the Nifty, also slipped by 2.2 percent or 56 points to end the day at 2,412 levels.
Leading the pack of losers on the Sensex was Dr Reddys Laboratories at Rs 817 that shed 4.4 percent or Rs 38 followed by Hero Honda at Rs 688, which slipped by 4 percent or Rs 29.
The other key losers include Larsen & Toubro (down 3.6 percent), ONGC (down 3.6 percent), Cipla (down 3.5 percent) and Bharti Televentures (down 3.3 percent).
Only three stocks on the Sensex Satyam Computer Services, ICICI Bank and cement major ACC managed to stay afloat in al overall bearish market.
