Securitas Technologies raises over $2Mn in seed funding

Madison: Praveen Sinha and Dr. Somesh Jha co-founded Securitas Technologies., a developer of innovative products and services to protect computer and network users against the growing threat of malware, announced today that it has closed its oversubscribed seed round of financing. The company raised a little over $2.1 million, with several individual investors participating in this financing round. The company also announced the appointment of John W. Thompson to its board of directors. John Thompson is the founding president of Thompson Investment Management, and has been since its inception in January 2004. The firm manages over $1.8 billion in assets for high net-worth individuals and institutional clients through investments in publicly-held securities. Most recently he was the founding President of Thompson, Plumb & Associates, serving in that position for 20 years. Prior to founding Thompson, Plumb & Associates, he served as Senior Trust and Investment Officer at Firstar Bank in Madison, Wisconsin. John was a founding director of Ultravisual Medical Systems since its inception, and now serves on the board of directors of Emageon (Nasdaq: EMAG) and is a member of Emageon's audit committee. Emageon is a leading vendor of IT system solution for healthcare industry. John earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1965 and an M.B.A. from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1967. He also holds a Chartered Financial Analyst designation and has 30 years of investment management experience. The company also announced that it has secured exclusive licensing rights on three patent-pending technologies, related to behavior-based and automated detection of malware, from Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF). The company's co-founder and chief scientist, Dr. Somesh Jha and his colleagues at University of Wisconsin, Madison, developed the technologies.
