Saudi king says focus on India

NEW DELHI: Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah who is this years Republic Day guest, said Saudi Arabia wants to improve ties between the world's top oil exporter and India.

India, which is growing at almost 7 percent annually, is in need of cheaper oil to fuel its booming economy and Saudi Arabia seems to be a better source.

King Abdullah, the first Saudi monarch in 50 years is coming with a huge business and government delegation for a four-day trip starting on Jan. 24. The Saudi is looking at increasing its economic ties with India. This includes more joint ventures between Indian and Saudi firms.

Ties between Saudi Arabia, Islam's birthplace, and India, Asia's third-largest economy and home to a huge Muslim minority, have improved incrementally since the early 1990s.
