BANGALORE: Satyam Computer Services said on Tuesday it was hiring programmers in eastern Europe and has set up a development center in the Hungarian capital. The center in Budapest will initially hire 60 engineers, but it may employ hundreds later, its chairman Ramalinga Raju said. Satyam, which employs 16,800 people and has offices in 45 countries, conducts software development, engineering design and back-office operations for global companies. India's largest software exporter, Tata Consultancy Services, already runs a software development center in Budapest. Progeon, an outsourcing firm based in Bangalore, has an office in the Czech Republic. In recent years, Indian companies have opened offices in north America and Europe, aimed at attracting Western companies looking to outsource but not comfortable with moving jobs to Asia, half way across the globe. Satyam already has offices in Canada and Australia. It plans to open one in Brazil to serve the Latin American market.
