Samsung India aims 12-billion festival business

Kolkata: Samsung India Electronics expects 12 billion in sales turnover in the current festive season nationwide. "We are eying 12-billion sales turnover across India during the festive season at a growth rate of 41 percent, in comparison to corresponding period previous year. Last year, we did business worth 8.5 billion during the festive season," Samsung Electronics' director for sales and marketing, Pradeep Tognatta, told IANS on the sidelines of a function to launch its flat television range, Easy View, here Thursday. He said that in the eastern region itself the company is trying to achieve 1.4 billion sales turnover during the festive season. "We aim to sale 1.8 million flat-screen televisions this year so that it could tap 25 percent of market share nationally in the segment. We are trying to sale 1,00,000 such sets just in the eastern region," he said. Talking to reporters, Samsung Electronics' deputy managing director Ravinder Zutshi said: "Samsung India is targeting to contribute five percent to the global turnover of its parent company by 2011." At present, it is contributing about 2.5 percent to the global turnover of its parent company. Samsung India is also setting up a facility centre in Chennai, which would be operational within the next three months. The company has another facility at Noida near New Delhi. "We have already invested $24 million for the first phase work at the facility centre. The unit will have a capacity to produce 1.5 million colour televisions and one million colour monitors a year, which will take the company's total capacity to three million yearly," Zutshi said, adding the company will also increase its total number of brand shops from 95 to 135 nationwide. Samsung India, which exports its products to all SAARC countries and the Middle East, is also expecting 2 billion export this year, he said.
