Bangalore: Though the auto sales have managed to achieve a double digit sales growth in January and also the two wheeler makers has also gained momentum, Indians are found to have more thirst for a SUVs (Sports Utility Vehicle), reports Pankaj Doval & Atul Thakur from Times News Network.

SUVs were meant for the rich at a time, but the scene has changed now. Many companies have grabbed this strategy to be in the market and are planning to launch their new line of SUV’s which are expected to have a price less than 10 lakh.

In 2011, the Indian passenger car market has seen a dip below 50 percent. Even the renowned car makers like Tata, Renault, Nissan, Bajaj and Global Motors couldn’t improve this low sales segment of these small cars.

The market share of the small cars such as Tata Nano, Maruti Alto, Ford Figo, Maruti Hyundai’s Santro, i10 and Eon, Gm’s Beat has came down to 47 percent. For the premium compacts such as Maruti Swift, Hyundai i20 and VW Polo, the segment grew at a pace of 6.5 percent in 2011, retaining its 11 percent share in the market.
