South Africa is looking for tie-ups with Indian information technology companies to consolidate relations between the two countries on the economic front.

BANGALORE: "India is a land of entrepreneurship and we would like you to share your experience in information technology," Ivy Matsepe Casaburri, South African minister for communications, told an interactive meeting with India's National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom) Thursday. The minister is leading a delegation of officials of IT firms from South Africa. "We are enthusiastic and seeking partnerships with your country too," Som Mittal, chairman of Nasscom, said. "Information, communication and technology (ICT) has been declared as one of the priority areas for development under the new economic programme for African development. And, IT can be used as an effective tool for development," Casaburri said. "South Africa is ideal for investment in IT and BPO (business process outsourcing) as well as disaster recovery systems," the minister said. About 10 South African companies are accompanying the delegation. Mittal, who recently took over as chairman of Nasscom, told reporters that there were no plans to revise the Indian software export target of $50 billion following the rupee going up in the post Iraq war situation. "Yes, there is an issue about how the currency has changed. But, I don't think the trends have changed. So, we don't see any need to revise the $50 billion target. Some new opportunities will come up," Mittal, who is also CEO of Digital Globalsoft, said.
