Bangalore: Rumors are that Apple has purchased a domain name icloud.com for $4.5 million. iCloud.com was previously owned by a Swedish software company, Xcerion, for its CloudMe product. Apple bought it from Xcerion.

Xcerion did not have any comment relating this issue but in the web database, we can find that the company still owns the domain name.

Rumors even show that Apple has been planning an iTunes-in-the-cloud service that would allow its customers to access their music, films and TV shows over the internet instead of carrying them on an iPod. Apple secured licensing agreements with Warner Music Group and with one of the three largest music labels (Universal Music Group, Sony and EMI).

Amazon also unveiled its cloud based music storage service but faced problems from music labels saying that they needed license to stream music. But then they clarified saying that they were offering cloud storage for music that its customers already owned and did not require license.

Apple often purchases domain names and does not use it at the end. There are possibilities that the service will not have that name.
