RIM unveils Blackberry Bold smartphones


Bangalore: Research In Motion (RIM) has launched two new Blackberry Bold smartphones, BlackBerry Bold 9900 and BlackBerry Bold 9930 at the annual Blackberry conference in Orlando. Both the handsets are identical in designs and they share almost the same features. The company claims that these smartphones are the World's thinnest smartphones. BlackBerry Bold 9900 supports HSPA+ connectivity and BlackBerry Bold 9930 is a CDMA world phone that supports EV-DO Rev. A and HSPA+ global roaming on GSM/UMTS networks. The QWERTY phones run on 1.2 GHz Qualcomm processor and are powered by the BlackBerry 7 operating system. It has a 2.8 inch VGA (640x480) capacitive touchscreen. The phones feature 8GB of storage, 5 MP camera with 720p HD video recording. The smartphones have Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS connectivity. The phones also have built in Near Field Communication (NFC). Mike Lazaridis, RIM President and co-CEO, said, "The new BlackBerry Bold smartphones and BlackBerry 7 operating system are inspired by millions of customers around the world who want the ultimate combination of performance, functionality and style. These fully-loaded and beautifully-crafted smartphones offer a highly refined user experience with blazingly fast performance, a brilliant touch screen and an outstanding typing experience." The devices will be released this summer, but the company has not disclosed about the pricing. RIM also launched a video chat application for its recently launched PlayBook tablet computer. However, the new launches failed to boost RIM stock on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
