'Pune Layar' lets you to track location & landmarks

Bangalore: Layar Augmented Reality (AR) browser, a new feature set the pace with the new trend of smartphones. A city firm has added a Pune touch to it by naming "Pune-Layar" that allows users find information regarding significant landmarks like museums, forts, monuments, buildings, restaurants and much more by just holding their smartphones to its direction. It also opens up a new way towards several futuristic displays of informations. Abhijit Kadle, senior manager, instruction designing, Upside Learning,said, "Layar is a reality browser that shows what is around you by displaying real time digital information about the image as seen through the camera of your mobile phone. This is called augmented reality and the information comes in as layers. Now, we have come up with real time application for Pune." Amar Jadhav, technical manager-development said that at present, it is available for mobile devices that run android version 1.5 and above or the Apple iPhone 3GS. Pune Layar connects the various landmarks to their Wikipedia pages and websites allowing users to access more information. It also gets the users step-by-step direction to a particular place using Google maps. , Upside Learning. Amit Garg, founder-director of the company, said the company's focus is to use Layar in learning solutions and fully explore its application in performance support solutions. "This is our first tryst with Layar. Developed first time for an Indian city it provides an opportunity to experience Pune city just like a local. The use of Layar or other augmented reality application in the field of e-Learning could be profound and we are working on it," said Garg.
