New York: Richard Branson owned Virgin has just released an iPad-only magazine titled Project. The release of the magazine comes in time of the impending launch of News Corp's iPad only-magazine, The Daily. Looks like Branson is now one above Rupert Mudroch in the race of the new magazine medium. Earlier reports speculated that Branson's Project would mostly be of the in-flight genre with light and browse-worthy contents. However, Branson has more under his belt. The initial shots of the magazine reveal more than what was previously contemplated on the style and content of the magazine. Virgin has designed Project to be a fully featured magazine, with design, entertainment, technology and entrepreneurs to be its main areas of coverage. The sound of Project is similar to Wired. And Project makes no mistake there by following the most selling magazine on iPad. Virgin is conducting a competition for redesigning the cover of the magazine to perk up consumer interest toward it. The winner gets to design another issue for next year. The magazine is already available in App Stores in Europe and U.S. The app is free but each new issue will cost you $2.99. Although the launch of Project may have hampered the prospects of The Daily, there is still hope as News Corp has Apple's support behind it and there may be new initiatives taken by the partners to accelerate its popularity. The Daily's launch may also see the unveiling of subscriptions in the iTunes store.
