Padmasree Warrier is Motorola's CTO

BANGALORE: Padmasree Warrier, a IIT Delhi graduate in Chemical Engineering, will be the new Chief Technology Officer of Motorola from January 1, 2003. Motorola Inc promoted Warrier acknowledged as a chip expert in the place of Dennis Roberson. Warrier, who has enjoyed a 18-year stint in Motorola is the first woman technology officer for the company. Before being appointed as the Cheif Technology officer, Warrier was in-charge of the business that made batteries for phones and laptop computers and also championed efforts to sell a new type of semiconductor material. Warrier, who has also done her Masters in Chemical Engineering from Cornell University is the highest ranking woman in Motorola. According to reports, Dennis Roberson who joined the company in 1998 from NCR Corp would continue to advice Motorola on policy and goverment issues. Chief Executive Officer Christopher Galvin is drawing up plans to license chip designs and sell more telephone chips to competitors to boost Motorola's revenue.
