New Delhi: One of the pioneers of chain multiplexes, PVR is all set to come up with 250 additional screens across the country by April 2010.

The company targets to launch about 40 screens of its 'PVR Premiere' brand meant for high-end customers. The rest will include PVR cinemas for city viewers and PVR Talkies for tier-two cities. Currently, it has 95 screens across India.

"We will open 250 more screens across the country by the end of April 2010. The initial investment will be over 4 billion," Ajay Bijli, chairman and managing director of PVR Ltd, told IANS.

He also said that cities like Mumbai, Delhi and Gurgaon would get one PVR Premiere cinema hall each and Bangalore two. The initial investment for one such multiplex is no less than 240 million.

The company Thursday launched this new brand in the national capital.

The company is also planning to come up with several PVR Talkies in tier two and three cities although they have not zeroed in on the cities yet. For one such theatre, the investment is over 12 million.

"For opening Talkies, we will study the areas first, understand the market and then accordingly decide and open halls in tier two and three cities, so that we do not incur loses," said Bijli.

By the end of this financial year, Gurgaon and Chandigarh will get one PVR Cinema each. Mumbai will get two such halls, one each in Goregaon and Lower Parel. The initial investment for a PVR Cinema is over 20 million.

The firm would also open two food courts, one each in Gurgaon and Ludhiana. The initial investment for one such eating outlet is up to 30 million.

To ensure no Uphaar-like cinema fire tragedy occurs in the multiplexes, Bijli said the company takes all best-possible measures.

"All our multiplexes have enough exits, large size doors, close-circuit cameras, fire extinguishers and smoke detectors to ensure safety of our viewers."
