New Delhi: Over 14.5 million people have been covered under the United Progressive Alliance's (UPA) flagship social security programme "Aam Admi Bima Yojana" by August 2010 while 19.6 million below poverty line families have been covered under the health insurance scheme, parliament was told Monday.

In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Labour and Employment Harish Rawat said Andhra Pradesh is the state with the maximum number of beneficiaries (61,68,797) under the scheme which provides insurance against death and disability to members of rural landless households.

Talking about the other schemes, the minister informed that more than 19.6 million BPL families (a unit of five) have been covered under Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY) which provides smart card-based cashless health insurance cover of 30,000 to each family.

Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are the states which have provided the maximum number of smart cards, 49,92,271 and 39,69,312 respectively.
