ONGC, Reliance enter list of world's top 500 firms

MUMBAI: For the first time ever, names of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation and Reliance Industries Ltd have figured among the top 500 companies in the world, according to a list published in Business Week. Apart from these, six other Indian companies have been included in the "Global 1,000 list - The World's Most Valuable Companies" for the first time, RIL said in a release on Thursday. While ONGC has been ranked at 260, RIL is placed at 402nd position, it said. The other six Indian companies are Indian Oil Corporation (638), Wipro (704), Infosys Technologies (727), Hindustan Lever Ltd (816), Bharti Tele-Ventures (948) and State Bank of India (993). Of the 38 countries, India is ahead of its Asian peers, excluding Japan, with eight companies in the list followed by China (six) and Singapore (five).
