Nokia's bicycle charger starts shipping, to reach India in March

Bangalore: Mobile phone maker Nokia has started shipping its Bicycle Charger Kit. Available in the European markets for 30 pounds, the charger is expected to reach Indian shores by March. The kit comprises of charger holder, a dynamo and a mounting bracket. The chargers charges the phone by generating current as one spins the tire sidewalls. As per Nokia, with just ten minutes of charging on the bicycle charger, you will be able to get 28 minutes of talk time. This provided you pedal between 4 to 50mph. However, it is also dependent on the model of the mobile being charged. The charger is compatible with all Nokia handsets with a 2mm charger interface. The kit and its components are weather proof and there is plastic bag for covering the phone during rains. Although the bicycle charger seems ideal for Indian conditions, specially in the rural areas; considering its high price, it is indeed doubtful if people will go for the charger or not.
