Nokia launches mobile radar concept to measure movement
Helsinki: Nokia research centre has displayed a mobile radar concept in a cellphone at an exhibition in Finland's capital Helsinki, which can measure speed, sense and movement, even when the device is covered by a piece of cloth. The company stated that the device will also measure the direction of movement of an approaching object and does so using electromagnetic waves, just like real radar. According to the blog posted on Electronista, applications for the technology, as the Nokia staffer demonstrates in the video below, could involve gesture control, with a simple raise of the hand upping the volume of music playback, with the reverse movement lowering music volumes. The feature could also be used at sporting events to determine a pitched ball's or a race car's speed. The company has not disclosed about bringing this feature to its cellphones across the world.
