Nokia buys social travel network Dopplr
Helsinki: Nokia has acquired Dopplr, a social network for travelers, to strengthen its push into offering internet services. With this latest acquisition in internet services, Nokia is seeking new growth areas outside the maturing handset market, reports Reuters. Nokia said that it has planned to continue running Dopplr separately from its current services offering. It bought the company from private shareholders. Dopplr was co-founded and led by Marko Ahtisaari, who used to work at Nokia and is the son of Nobel Peace Prize winner, Martti Ahtisaari. A Nokia Spokeswoman said that the price "was a fraction" of the 10-15 million Euros ($14.7-$22.0 million) estimate mentioned in reports.
