New York: It's been a trend in the Intel Science Talent Search to have Indian students topping the prestigious contest for a long time; however, this time no Indian students are figured in the highly esteemed science and math contest's top 10 award list despite having 10 students among the 40 national finalists. Evan O'Dorney, 17, of Danville, California was the winner of the $100,000 top prize. He won the prize for his mathematical project in which he compared two ways to estimate the square root of an integer. The Intel Foundation awarded a total of $1.25 million in the competition this year. Every finalist will who did not place in the top 10 will receive $7,500 in scholarships. 300 students were named semifinalists in January out of the 1,744 high school senior entrants in the competition. Out of these, 40 selected finalists were invited to Washington, D.C., to compete for the top awards. They also met President Barack Obama on March 15 in the East Room of the White House. Out of 10 Indian American finalists, there were three seniors from Northern California, two from Texas, and others from Michigan, Minnesota, New York and Florida.
