New York based Gujarat Times joins ILNA

New York: Gujarat Times, a New York-based weekly newspaper joined the Indian Languages Newspaper Association (ILNA), a New Delhi-based group that seeks to promote journalism in regional languages, reports Desi Talk. Dr. Sudhir M. Parikh, publisher of Gujarat Times and Desi Talk, said that regional language publications such as Gujarat Times play an important role in creating awareness about social issues, when he addressed the conference of ILNA in New Delhi,. Parikh who was in India as part of the media delegation accompanying President Barack Obama on his visit to the country said that such media are not only a reflection of society but also highlight India's development. He also added that ILNA has forged a new direction for proactive journalism in Indian regional languages as well as helped to highlight the rights of the vernacular press. Founded in 1941, ILNA had organized a conference that payied attention on regional Indian language publications abroad, the role Indian publishers in promoting regional languages and foreign investment, the press release said. Paresh Nath, the president of ILNA, said he was delighted to welcome Parikh and Gujarat Times as members of the group. He said that the relationship would add to ILNA's international profile as well as act as a bridge between Indian publishers living abroad. He said ILNA would strive to work for the benefit of publishers as well as meet the expectations of the readers. Anant Nath, ILNA member, and Ravi Kumae Bishnoi, ILNA chairperson, were quoted as saying that Parikh's membership would help strengthen the organization. Others who attended the conference were Rajiv Vashisht, Ankit Bishnoi, Gagan Bishnoi, Vivek Gupta, Kirit Khamer, Devendra Gupta, Sanjay Gupta, etc among many other proficient journalists.
