New Google Earth version 6 out, closer to reality
Bangalore: Google has launched the latest version of Google Earth on Monday. The interactive digital atlas from Google has introduced two new features to make the user experience more realistic. Google Earth 6 has integrated Street View experience, newly added 3D trees and easier to browse historical imagery.

Google introduced Street View in 2008 that enabled flying into Street View panoramas. About the integration of Street View, Google Product Manager, Peter Birch wrote in a blog post, "You'll notice that Pegman is docked right alongside the navigation controls - an ever-present travel companion ready whenever you want to get your feet on the street and take a virtual walk around. Just pick up Pegman and drop him wherever you see a highlighted blue road to fly right down to the ground."

Google Earth 6 also incorporates 3D models of various species of trees. Google has joined hands with organizations like Green Belt Movement in Africa, the Amazon Conservation Team in Brazil and CONABIO in Mexico to model the threatened forests through its Google Earth Outreach program.

A feature introduced in Google Earth 5, the historical imagery viewing is a hit with people. It lets you visually go back in time and witness historic places. With the new version of Earth, Google lets you trace a historical place with ease. If you fly through an area where historical imagery is present, the status bar shows the oldest date of the imagery available. Clicking on it will take you to the desired location.

Google has upped the viewing quotient with Earth's new edition by adding the new features. We await eagerly to see what lies in the future of viewing your streets and homes.
