New-GovernmentCare: Key Reforms That Can Shape India's Future

Sustainable growth: Sustainable development or growth, at present time is a most concern phenomena. Globally, every country including most developing countries like India realizes that their future generation must not suffer due to lack of resources. According to the United Nations, it is describe as a process that “fulfils the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” But, the real situation in India is that public discourse is crippled by several disabilities.

On top of this, the elected leaders in our competitive politics are into fault-finding and finger-pointing rather than concentrating on the actual development, stated UN.

The 74th Amendment: The 74th Amendment was an act that was added as a new Part IX-A to the Constitution of India. It was passed in 1992 to accord formal recognition to Urban Local Bodies in the Constitution and make them more autonomous and participatory. It is entitled as the Municipalities and consists of provisions from Articles 243-P to 243-ZG. This particular act gave constitutional status to the municipalities bodies and also brought it under the purview of justifiable part of the Constitution. The act mainly aims at revitalizing and strengthening the urban governments so that they function effectively as units of local government. But, unfortunately, though this Amendment was incorporated into the Constitution over 2 decades ago, it is still not implemented and improvised properly. So, there is an urgent need to re-examine it by the next government.
