Nasscom to host animation event

HYDERABAD: The National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom), which is hosting the `Nasscom Animation India 2006' meet on January 12 and 13, is set to release a study on the animation and gaming industry in the country. The event has been specifically structured to address the emerging global opportunities and the strategies for the animation and gaming industry in India. With global entertainment majors such as Walt Disney, Imax, Warner Brothers and Sony signing up contracts with Indian animation companies, India is fast emerging as an alternative to Korea, Philippine and Taipei for animation outsourcing and is being recognized as a post-production hub for animation. According to an estimate, the Indian animation industry is currently growing at a compounded annual rate of 30 percent. With the growth of the entertainment and the mobile industry, the gaming industry is set witness to boom. The gaming industry, which is worth $10 billion in the U.S., is yet to be tapped by Indian companies.
