Nasscom launches quality forum

BANGALORE: IT body, the National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom) has launched its Quality Forum aimed at promoting a culture of quality consciousness for the purpose of enhancing international competitiveness of the Indian IT industry. The Forum would seek to promote India quality story by undertaking research reports and preparing handbook on best practices, among others, and collaborate with institutions like SEI and IFPUG to organize some of their examinations in India, NASSCOM officials said. The Forum is led by Pawan Kumar, Chairman of vMoksha Technologies and co-chaired by Lakshmi Narayan, President and CEO of Cognizant Technologies. According to figures compiled by Nasscom, India has more than 89 companies at SEI CMM and CMMi Level 5 assessment; 275 Indian software and BPO companies have acquired quality certification. Nasscom, the "voice" of the IT software and services industry in India, also released the findings of a survey - aimed to gain an in-depth view of the Indian companies that have walked a significant distance on their road to quality - related to SEI CMM Level 5 and life beyond this assessment. According to the findings, key issues such as gaining global competitiveness and meeting customer expectations largely drive the need for quality.
