London: The timely actions of intelligence agencies have stopped the world from witnessing a "Mumbai-model" attack in European cities. Intelligence agencies have intercepted a terror plot by Pakistan-based militants to launch Mumbai-style attacks on Britain and other European countries, Sky news reported.

Militants were planning simultaneous strikes on London and major cities in France and Germany. The plan for suicidal onslaughts similar to the 2008 atrocity in Mumbai, where Pakistan-based Islamist group Lashkar-e-Taiba killed 166 people in a series of gun and grenade attacks.

The European plot had been disrupted following intelligence sharing between Britain, France, Germany and the U.S. It is not known whether the attackers are already in Europe.

The report of the foiled plot came on the same day the Eiffel Tower in Paris was evacuated following a bomb threat for the second time in a month, and amid official warnings in France of an imminent terrorist attack.

When investigators discovered the plan, the U.S. military began helping its European allies track down the organizers in Pakistan, which explains the increase in drone attacks in the country in recent weeks. Pakistani security officials have reported around 20 missile attacks in the country's tribal belt along with Afghan border this month, the latest on Monday killing four militants.
