THIRUVANANTHPURAM: US ambassador David Mulford has asked India to allow foreign direct investment in the retail sector. "The experience of China and other countries proves that contrary to perceptions that opening up of the retail market only helps to create more jobs, it has also been proved that it is not at all going to affect the local community," Mulford said.. "Everyone knows that it is not difficult to come into India but there are several other issues. Look at the Dabhol issue and that of a few US companies that have problems in Tamil Nadu," Mulford said. "The Indian government expects US FDI in India to quadruple. For that to happen, teething problems have to be solved," Mulford said.
