Kolkata:Minister of state for steel Jitin Prasada Wednesday urged secondary steel makers to keep prices under check. Participating in an interactive session with officials from the steel sector, the minister said: "I request all who are present here and also those who are not present, to keep prices under check". Regarding the stand-off between the West Bengal government and the state's opposition parties over the Tata Motors' Nano small car project at Singur, he said: "Land allocation is a major challenge in the state". Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee is leading a sit-in at Singur with the demand that the state government return 400 acres it had forcibly acquired from unwilling farmers for the car factory. Prasada said the state governments should fulfil three primary conditions while acquiring land for industries - adequate compensation for those whose land is being acquired, create jobs for affected families, and make such people stakeholders in the project.
