Microsoft sold 350 million copies of Windows 7 Licenses

Bangalore: After setting the milestone for IE9 it is time for the Windows 7. Microsoft announced that it sold 350 million licenses of Windows 7 in just 18 months. When calculated it was found that about 450 copies were sold every minute. With this Windows 7 stands second with 24 percent leaving the first slot to its sibling Windows XP which holds about 55 percent of the market share. But it is predicted that Windows 7 will surpass its elder brother in another 12 to 15 months. Brandon LeBlanc on the Windows Team Blog said that Analyst firms like IDC estimate that more than 90 percent of businesses are currently in progress with their Windows 7 migrations. It has helped businesses to save around $140 per PC per year showing a 131 percent return on investment in just more than 12 months." For beating Windows XP, Windows 7 might take some time but it has way passed Vista for sure.Compared to Windows 7, Vista sold only 180 million licenses in 18 months. Based on IDC data, Windows 7 licenses equate to 68 percent (out of 517 million shipments) of overall PC sales in 18 months, while Vista only performed 45 percent (out of 400 million shipments) at the time.
