Mercedes launches saloon in India

MUMBAI: Carmaker Daimler Chrysler India finally launched its Mercedes-Benz E-Class saloon in the country with a price tag of Rs 3.39 million without taxes. The launch comes within 10 months of the vehicle's global launch. "The new E-Class represents the heart of the Mercedes brand and embodies the fusion of high performance, cutting-edge technology, latest designs and our 115 years' of automotive passion in one car," Hans-Michael Huber, managing director and chief executive officer of Daimler Chrysler India, said in a statement. He said the vehicle would feature the first large-scale series use of the innovative and more effective sensotronic brake control system. The design of the new E-Class will have the brand's elegant lines of the preceding series, a company statement said. The new Mercedes E-Class, E 240 petrol version is expected to be available at 15 authorized showrooms across India from November 2002.
