McAfee India to focus on product ownership

BANGALORE: To meet the growing demand for online security solutions, McAfee Inc, a leader in Intrusion Prevention and Security Risk Management, announced that its India center would be focusing on engineering ownership of many products and significantly increase the headcount. Talking to media persons, McAfee’s President and CEO, George Samenuk said, “The expansion of McAfee is a reflection of our continuous commitment and the track record of success in India.” Over the next four years, the company is investing over $80 million in the India center, which is the largest development center for McAfee in the world. He also mentioned that McAfee is cash rich, with zero debt. Samenuk is currently looking at acquisition in the space of wireless and security companies. What interests him are companies in the range of $20 million to $400 million in revenue. Commenting on the engineering ownership of many McAfee products, The Head of McAfee’s India Operations, Sridhar Jayanthi mentioned that the ownership of half a dozen McAfee products is with India center. By 2008, the company plans to increase the headcount of the center by over 1000 employees. He said, “We will work closely with our global customers to ensure their inclusion in the product development lifecycle.” Besides, in order to support its growth in India, the company has taken few customer-focused initiatives. It has provided an opportunity for its customers to provide inputs in developing global security solutions through its Joint Development Program. Additionally, the Center will also provide its customers Global Labs Access and Remote Access Technology. All of these initiatives create the opportunity for a sophisticated interaction between McAfee and its customers, said Jayanthi.
