MANGALORE: The city is one of the first tier II cities in Karnataka to attract investments in information technology (IT) sector — is betting on its infrastructure and human resource potential to attract more investments. According to G Giridhar Prabhu of Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), who presented a paper on ‘Beyond Bangalore’ at the recently concluded Bangalore IT.in, said that there are enough potential for Mangalore to grow in the IT sector. Referring to the construction boom in Mangalore, Prabhu said ample housing and office projects are being commissioned in the city at one-third the cost of metro cities. The State Government of Karnataka has taken steps to set up an IT special economic zone (SEZ) in the city. The Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board has issued notifications for the acquisition of around 550 acres of land in Mangalore for this purpose.
