Madhya Pradesh to give priority to girls education

Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh government Thursday said ít is giving top priority to motivating girls for higher education and several schemes launched earlier have resulted in the girl students 47 percent presence among the total number of college students.

"Among the 294,129 college students in the academic session 2007-08, the number of girl students was 145,842, which amounts to more than 47 percent," an official release said.

While 'Gaon Ke Beti' and 'Pratibha Kiran' schemes have been launched to inspire girls for higher education and helping them, 30 percent of seats have been reserved for girls in all government colleges. Relaxation in age limit too has been provided to girls in colleges, said the release.

Besides, no tution fee is charged from post-graduate girl students in non-technical courses being conducted by the government and counselling and career guidance cells for women have been set up in colleges.
