Hyderabad: MacroMedia Digital, India's largest digital printing company, announced an investment of 100 million (over $2 million) to install and commission the latest HP Scitex digital printing solution.

The company claims it is the single largest investment in India's digital printing industry.

Announcing this here, Naresh Kumar, managing director, MacroMedia Digital Imaging Pvt Ltd, said 100 million was invested to install HP Scitex FB6700, the world's first fully automated digital press.

It has thus become the first Indian company to invest in the latest technology, which uses odour-free, environment-friendly and water-based pigment inks.

"The installation of this sophisticated machine is a milestone for the booming retail industry," he said.

Since its inception in 2000 in Hyderabad, MacroMedia - a partner of Hewlett-Packard - has invested 250 million to spread its operations by installing 21 HP Scitex equipments, including 18 digital presses across six centers in India.

The company, which has over 2,000 clients, recorded a turnover of 225 million during 2005-06 and has a target of 280 million in the current fiscal.

Kumar said his company was looking to tap the tremendous potential in the graphic market in the country, the size of which is expected to cross 15 billion by 2007-08.

"HP Scitex sets world standards in digital printing and is committed to help MacroMedia Digital maintain its leadership position in the digital printing industry," said Puneet Chadha, country manager, commercial sales imaging and printing group, HP India.

He said the integration of Scitex with HP in India was complete. HP had acquired Scitex for $230 million in August 2005.
