MTNL profit 90 percent up in Q3

New Delhi:The state-run telecom major Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL)reported an increase of 90.52 percent in its net profit during the third quarter of 2006-07. The net profit for the telephone service provider increased to 2.24 billion compared to 1.17 billion in the third quarter of 2005-06. The firm, however, witnessed a dip in its income generated from services, which is 12.60 billion during the quarter ending December 2006 compared to 12.66 billion in the same period last year, according to an MTNL statement. Income from mobile services posted a robust increase of 31.22 percent 2.00 billion as against 1.52 billion in the third quarter of last year.
