MTNL chosen as telecom provider for Games

New Delhi: State-run Mahanagar Telephone Nigam (MTNL) has been designated as the telecom service provider for the 2010 Commonwealth Games, with the cabinet approving a budget of 182 crore for it. "With this support of 182 crore, MTNL will establish an exclusive and dedicated telecommunication network to be obtained on wet lease," Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni said here Thursday. The network will be inclusive of supply, installation, testing, commissioning, operation, maintenance and providing professional services. The Games are scheduled Oct 3-14. Soni said the main objective of this project was to provide a robust and effective system of telecommunication. The system will cater to the requirement of transmission of games data, security data, high-definition broadcast signal between sports venues, international broadcasting centre, main press centre and master control facilities.
