Leadership Lessons for CIOs from Margaret Thatcher

"Economics are the method; the object is to change the heart and soul." Sunday Times, May 1, 1981.

The corporate world is primarily run on policies and rules. There are times where policies are re-written or even new rules are being added. It’s quite a common sight where we see top executives often getting frustrated and strangled with strong policies. Thatcher believed in policies, but where she excelled was that she got her team of ministers also believe in them.  For CIOs, it’s highly recommended that they follow the policies, but also tweak themselves and their team according to them. Change your views and adapt fast, so that the success will come to you faster.

"What is success? I think it is a mixture of having a flair for the thing that you are doing; knowing that it is not enough, that you have got to have hard work and a certain sense of purpose."

How to achieve success? A very strong question in the mind of all the CIOs across the corporate universe. According to Thatcher, the best way to achieve success is by having a sheer view of your target. This high-prolific presence of mind can be attained by having the right mixture of hard work and flair within you. ‘The sharper you are, easier the path to success you achieve.’
